Quad Cities Romance Writers of America

Local Rules

Our meetings are governed by the following local rules:

1. Meetings are from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Critique will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. with open discussion at the end of the meeting – after all submissions (work brought for critique) have been read.

2. Submissions are limited to NO MORE than 10 pages, double spaced, with a MINIMUM of 12-point font. Submissions not in this format will not be critiqued – NO EXCEPTIONS.

3. A rotation list will be established for the order of reading submissions at critique sessions. If a member arrives late, missing his or her spot in the rotation, his or her submission will be read last

4. Volunteers for reading will be requested at each critique session. However, members may not read their own submission.

5. Submissions may be brought to only one critique session. Exception: submission has undergone significant revision and the member is currently seeking publication or entering a contest.

6. Pursuant to RWA National rules, all local members are required to be members of RWA National.  New members are required to join RWA National after attending two local meetings and provide the President with their assigned RWA National number. Applications for RWA National can be found at www.rwanational.org.

7. Critique sessions may be varied from time-to-time with assigned topic meetings or guest speakers. If a member has particular topics that he or she would like to focus on, for example, point of view, dialogue, plotting, synopsis, the publication process, etc., that member may volunteer to be a facilitator for a discussion topic meeting. Likewise, members are encouraged to volunteer to organize guest speaker meetings. Members will be advised ahead of time when a critique session is superseded with a special topic or guest speaker meeting.
